South Dakota Construction Mission Trip (May 2026)

The Shelby Baptist Association will be hosting a mission trip to Čhankú Wašté Ranch
Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota

April 25-May 1 (Construction)

** PLEASE NOTE:  IF YOU ARE REGISTERING FOR SOMEONE ELSE PLEASE BE SURE TO PUT THEIR NAME AND CONTACT INFORMATION. EACH PERSON’S CONTACT INFORMATION IS REQUIRED FOR US TO GET THEM REGISTERED FOR THE TRIP.**

 

I. Trip Overview:
     A. Trip Dates:
          1. Construction—Spring: April 25-May 1
          2. Compassion—Fall: September 19-26
     B. Trip Costs:
          1. On the Rez Lodging, Meals, Resource Fees, and T-Shirt: See Handout
          2. Transportation:
               a) Each participant has the option to drive or fly (additional fee from the above discussed fees)
               b) Flying & Driving options will be handled by each individual.
          3. Each person will be responsible for his/her own meals anytime he/she chooses to go off the Rez for     sightseeing.
     C. Lodging:
          1. On the Rez:
               a) Bunkhouse style rooms: gender separated in the main building
               b) Showers/Restroom: gender specific in the main building (2 for each gender)
               c) Beds are single size and two stacks of three per room. (3 rooms on each side in the Main building and 2      barracks with bunk beds in the Bunk House)
               d) Should someone desire to bring their RV, there are accommodations for two units. (Water, Sewage, and Electric Connections)
               e) September Trip Only: There will be new housing accommodations in the main building with a dormitory style room for each gender and additional restrooms & showers. In addition there will be an area for relaxation in the new dormitory area.
          2. Traveling: If you choose to drive, travel accommodations are on your own.
          3. Traveling and Sightseeing Meals are at your own expense.
     D. Meals:
          1. On the Rez:
               a) There is a commercial kitchen in the main building. (Sept team will hopefully have a refurbished and enlarged kitchen.)
               b) We will have a team cooking led by Jason Hobbs (Spring) & Lisa Camp (Fall)
               c) If you have dietary needs due to health issues advance notice is requested to accommodate.
          2. Off the Rez: See item I. C. 3.
II. Great Needs:
     A. Healthy Partnerships
          1. Restoration of teeth, oral reconstruction. Π
          2. Houses Built on Rez: 15% estimated without electricity or running water. More than any other region in the US.
          3. Adoption of a home/oral reconstruction/family unit.
          4. Adopt a home to be built.
          5. Adopt a week at Camp
          6. Goal: A restored life.
III. Trip Plans:
     A. April 25-May 1
          1. Construction Crew: 20-25
               a) Trim Out of New Dormitory Rooms in Main Building
               b) Projects in Kitchen Expansion of Main Building
               c) Projects in Painting, Electrical, plumbing, trim
               d) Mechanical Maintenance on Vehicles
           2. Feeding Crew: 4-5
     B. September 19-26—Total 35-40
          1. Optometry Staff:
               a) Optometrist—2-3
               b) Assistants
          2. Dental Ministry:
               a) Two Dentists
               b) Two to Four Assistants and/or hygienists
          3. Hospitality and Service Team:
               a) Servant-minded and hearted people to build relationships with the Oglala Lakota people for present and future ministry opportunities
               b) Hospitality Team members
               c) People willing/interested in helping with optometry/dental registration, screenings, and personal engagement.
               d) Drivers willing to assist with transportation-comfortable driving passenger vans and have a clean driving record
               e) Winterization:
                    (1) Camp clean up
                    (2) Camp pack up at the end of the season
          4. Mechanical Maintenance on Vehicles
     C. Trip Timeline:
          1. Non-refundable deposit of $100 due—Feb. 1 (April Trip) & April 1 (Sept Trip)
          2. Team Training Meeting: For April—Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the SBA office. For September—Sunday, August 30, 2026 at 2:00 PM at SBA Office.
          3. Final payment ($150–April Trip/$175–Sept. Trip) due: April 12/Aug. 30
     D. All SD/CWR Participants will receive a registration invite from Send Relief after deposits are submitted to SBA through their Eventbrite Registration.
     E. Send Relief Requirements:
          1. Background Checks
          2. Ministry Safe Training
          3. For Send Relief Equipment Drivers:
               a) Online High Top Van Training
               b) DMV Background Check
